Hi,Vishal I will like to ask you one scenario hope you will be of kind help what can be the possible test cases for the login page with the labels like "username" password " confirm password", and submit button apart from the basic test cases like:Go to User Id field and without entring data in that field press "Enter" key. Expected-it should prompt message " Please enter 'User ID' "
2)Go to login screen enter "User Id" and winthout entering password try to click on "OK" button. Expected-it should prompt message "Please enter 'Password' "
3)Go to login screen enter "User Id" and enter wrong password try to click on "OK" button. Expected-it should prompt message " Please enter Proper 'User ID' and 'Password' "
4)Go to Login screen enter all required data and press "OK" button then software window will open. In that window click on "Back" button. Expected-It should go back to 'Login' screen and that
screen should not show "User Id" and "Password"
5)Go to login screen enter "User Id" and enter password as "god12" try to click on "OK" button. Expected-It should prompt message for wrong Password.
I read that you have covered most of the Black box test cases. Other than these there may be few more like:
1- Check for range of fields as per the SRS 2- Check for XSS vulnerability( for detail visit, http://vishalsachan.blogspot.com/2008/08/checking-security-vulnerability-xss.html) 3- Some usability issue can be tested like, after clicking on OK on error massage (if it is a pop up window) field data goes vanishes or not. or 4- Some security concern like if your login is succeed and then if you press back button. what is the behavior?
I guess these are the possible test cases. If one can have more please share here only. Thanks.

Yes you are right dear. When an interviewer asked to write test cases on login functionality as you mentioned above, you can write them ......The basic BB test cases are same as you wrote above. Other than this you can ask SRS(the requirement)for more test cases. But some like usability and security cases come from QA only. No matter project team fix the defect/issue against these cases but QA need to report all this.
@Vishal need to discuss one scenario: we have to email id say sandeep@gmail.com and anothr as vishal@gmail.com based upon this we have 4 conditions( 4 text boxes for username fields)for easy reference I label the text boxes as A,B,C,D.I utilized the given mail ids for A and B.the result was desired.How to test the remainng fields C, D.the condition being the used email ids cannot be utilized again.you have full access to database as well.

I believe small org are better place to learn in short frame of time. yes the MNC are the places where you shape your learning what you have learnt in small org. I am with one of the big IT giant and here I am learning new trhings offcourse but I had also worked with small org in my starting days. even I was with small org before this. I feel I have gain double exp as compare to time spend there. I was responsible for end to end STLC while in MNC's you work with a module or even with in specific area. like defect manager is another person, execution is done by diff, planing done by other one..but with small org all this is done by same person..:)
Now days in small org, Agile Methodology is used. Specially the org working in web base applications are using this broadly. Lots of things has been changed now. SDLC and STLC are now more challenging as the requirements changes very frequently. Client are more demanding. So agile- scrum is best method to be used.
Rest The database knowledge is not mandatory for QA i mean it depends. Now days QA are less technical in more org. Org hires people from non technical BG but I believe database knowledge help testers to do their job better. Technical person can think more to break the system.

As mentioned early by you,before joining the IT gaint you worked in a small organisation, I guess you might have also come across this question by interviewrs that what was the process you followed in your organisation,I mean right from the requirement phase upto the acceptance phase.what were your roles and responsibilities, what process and software model you follow, whom you used to report etc etc.what was your response at that time. I hope you would not mind answering it the way you handled it.I GUESS this is very important question bcoz it can land you anywhere either in safe zone or create an impression among the interviewers that the person has not actuallly worked.though actually he has but as he is not able to explain it properly he misses the bus.this has happend to me 2 times so far while appearing for level5 organisations.
